It's never been a more important time to have a great CMO
The role remains undervalued, and there's alpha to be had with great leadership

Every week there's another headline about the "death of the CMO" in business media or on someone's blog.
Or something like: "the CMO is being replaced, the role is shrinking, AI is making marketing leadership obsolete, companies don't need CMOs anymore."
It's striking because no other executive role seems to get this treatment. You rarely see a steady stream of stories questioning whether companies still need CEOs, CFOs, or CIOs.
Somehow, it's always the CMO. We think that's absurd.
As markets become more competitive and attention becomes more fragmented, great marketing leadership becomes more valuable, not less. Every ambitious company needs someone who understands customers, positioning, brand, demand generation, product marketing, communications, and how to connect all of those disciplines into a coherent growth strategy.
The reality is simple: a great CMO is worth their weight in gold.
Yes, the role is evolving. Every executive role is. AI will change how marketers work, just as it will change finance, engineering, operations, and legal. But changing tools don't eliminate the need for leadership. They make strong leadership even more important.
Don't fall for the meme.
If you're building a marketing career, seek out great CMOs to learn from. The best ones will accelerate your career more than any software ever could.
And if you're a CMO, don't undersell your value. Great companies don't grow because they market less. They grow because they market better.
